Price measurement & data quality

Sung Ha leads GroceryPulse's research methodology, data infrastructure, and quality systems — the work that turns a weekly scrape of Canadian grocery shelves into a price index an economist can defend.

Before co-founding GroceryPulse, he worked as an applied-AI software engineer at Meta. He brings that experience in large-scale systems and machine-assisted quality control to a public-interest question: how can Canadians see grocery-price movements sooner, more clearly, and with enough transparency to audit the result?

GroceryPulse's answer is the Canadian Grocery Price Index — a documented, matched-model weighted Jevons index built on weekly observations across major cities and grocery banners. Every published figure carries its coverage, its methodology version, and the collection week it came from, so a reader can check the work rather than take it on trust.

Research and institutional collaboration

GroceryPulse is an independent research publisher. Its weekly price panel is shared with Dalhousie University's Agri-Food Analytics Lab for national grocery-price analysis and commentary, and its figures are cited in Canadian national and regional press. GroceryPulse's methodology, data systems, and publication programme are led by Sung Ha Hwang.
